In the sea there are many creatures who have died. The cause of the deaths are from people littering on our beautiful NZ beaches. In 2011 of the coast of Tauranga there was a major oil spill and an estimated 2000 sea birds were killed, including 345 little blue penguins. Another 20,000 seabirds were victims with their food being contaminated from the oil spill. NZ is surrounded by coast line and most of us have spent time swimming, playing, sunbathing, fishing, walking and searching for shells or stones, But in 1994 two whales washed up on NZ beaches with their deaths being caused by plastic bags. Thousands of sea turtles and birds have died from eating plastic bags. SAVE OUR BEACHES!! DONT LITTER.

Great discussions today around subject of protecting our beaches and the creatures that inhabit there. Well done Mikaela on a very well written summary of our Sea Week article. Keep up the amazing focus on learning, aim high and personal excellence will always be achieved.
