Mummies
In class the googlers have been reading about Mummies. We learnt about the process when making a mummy and how Cats could become mummies too. The cats in Egypt even had their own cemetery. While reading we found out how Guanches Mummies were made. The started off by removing the internal organs. They then let the body dry out in the sun. The body was embalmed with soil, stones and vegetable matter or fat. The Mummie was placed in a cave surrounded by a stone wall. The Mummy was wrapped in animal skin after they had stuffed the body with sand. The first mummy to be discovered was in 1922. The mummy of Tutankhamun was found in the Valley of Kings in Egypt. Workers uncovered a lone stair. Believing it must lead somewhere, they dug down through layers of sand and rubble to reach a sealed door. The name Nebkheprure was written on the door seals. This was the name taken by Tutankhamun, better known as King Tut. He was a Pharaoh of Egypt more than three thousand years ago. The leader of the dig, Howard Carter, hoped they had found King Tuts tomb. In the tomb there were many hidden treasures inside. In Egypt they believed that everyone had an afterlife so they buried him with many items that would help him along his journey. I enjoyed reading this book as I learnt something new.

Technology
Last week the year 7 and 8 students of room 9 had technology with Miss Munro and Mr Wilmot. The year 8's were with Mr Wilmot in the hard materials work shop. We could choose to either make a birdhouse, bookshelf/bedside table, a kontiki fishing boat or a multi purpose picture frame. We also had the choice to make an item of our own as long as the materials were in the workshop. On the Wednesday and Thursday we had the painting stage for the projects and we had the rest of the week to go through the design, layout, cutting with the jigsaw and sanding stages. I cant wait to see our finished products. They will be amazing.
The skills we had to use in tech involved co-operation, communication, responsibility and confidence when using the power tools and other items found in Mr Wilmots workshop. We, as year 8's learnt new techniques with the jigsaw. this will help us when learning hard materials at future schools and jobs.

My Finished Product
My finished product turned out really well. I really enjoyed the process that I had to go through to complete my project. The painting stage was my favourite and I also quite enjoyed using the jigsaw. I found the jigsaw quite difficult at first but then it got as easier and I was able to go faster when cutting out the back pieces to my frame. Filing and sanding the outline of the shape was the most difficult and tiring stage as we had to have the surface and perimeter smooth and even. I created my photo frame as a birthday present for my step mum. The finished product looks amazing!
